Street Running Rail / Light Rail Transit (LRT)
Arterial street rights-of-way can also provide a desirable location for rail alignments.  This alternative is very similar to the candidate alternative identified in the Feasibility Analysis of Light Rail and Improved Bus Service, conducted by the City of Madison in 1992.  Since that time, the Madison metropolitan area has changed, and so have several aspects of this alternative.  The purpose for updating this street-running rail alternative is to take advantage of those changes, to the degree possible.
